Overview
We utilize different processes for verifying education and training to the highest level depending on the provider type and board certification status of the practitioner.
We verify the highest level of education and training obtained by the practitioner in the following order:
- Board certification
- Training/Residency
- Education: Graduation from medical school or professional education
All ABMS or other board certified practitioners are verified through the applicable specialty board fee.
If a practitioner is not board certified:
- Physicians:
- A state license verification is used as an education proxy if we have collected evidence that the state conducts primary source verification of education and training to the highest level
- If the state licensing board does not provide that proof, AMA Physician Masterfile, AOA Physician Profile Report, or the National Student Clearinghouse (NSCH) is used
- If foreign medical school verification is needed, ECFMG Is utilized (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates for internal medical graduates licensed after 1986)
- Other healthcare professionals:
- A state license verification is used as an education proxy if we have collected evidence that the state conducts primary source verification of education and training to the highest level
- If the state licensing board does not provide that proof, direct verification with a school is performed
**There are occasions where entities may ask for a release of information consent form before we can verify education from them. We would need to obtain this signed consent form by conducting outreach to the provider. Waiting for the consent form to be returned to us and for the entity to return a verification to us may cause a potential third party delay in the verification process.
Providers can complete the consent form in either of the following ways:
- Complete the online education verification consent form
- Click here to download a paper copy of the release of information consent form. This form as well as a copy of the provider's diploma needs to be submitted to us
